World Cities Day and Wildflowers, Liverpool

Last Thursday, the World Cities Day global observance was held in Liverpool. United Nations has designated every October 31st as the World Cities Day to discuss issues concerning environment, economy, climate change, human right and so on and so forth. With Better City, Better Life as the overall theme, the sub-theme for the year 2018 is Building sustainable and resilient cities.

National Wildflower Centre Director Richard Scott shows UN-Habitat Chief Executive Maimunah Mohd Sharif the Northern  Flowerhouse Register at the World Cities Day gathering in St.Georges Hall. Ms. Sharif showed interests in the wildflower project done by the National Wildflower Centre. Richard also gave a copy of the publication  Wildflowers Work to Ms. Sharif.

It is important to show how wildflowers and rich ecological landscapes can fit into the framework of green infrastructure, to ensure in a world full of challenges and increased urbanisation, that we have high and accessible nature in the places where people live,  and in public park and spaces everywhere.

Wildflowers, with their strong resilience and sustainability, can help build confidence and deliver positive change and transformation, to restore and create new places and HABITAT for people and nature.
